I find this time of year to be a conflict between my soul and my world.
In my world, the holiday season is upon me and everyone’s energy level is elevated. It is an exciting time of year, yet overwhelming at the same time. There is shopping, wrapping, cooking, cleaning, and the expectation of a perfect holiday. There is an energy of go, go, go; yet my soul is calling for quiet reflection. I want to curl up with a blanket, my journal, a cup of tea. I want to turn inward, review my year and learn from my mistakes, mourn losses, celebrate my accomplishments, recall fond memories, friendships lost and friendships gained. I need to take time to contemplate where I have been and where I am going. Where tenacity, determination and persistence pushed me to the awkward space of trying something new, living outside of my comfort zone, and taking chances. Thanking God for all he has given me.
I want to slow down and really experience the season of Christmas.
During this time of beautiful celebration, take some time to reflect and appreciate all you have had, currently have, and will have in the future. Take a few moments to sit and reflect on the past year. Slow down and really experience the season of Christmas and all its beauty and wonder. Each day focus on one sense (vision, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching) and absorb all you can through that sense.
For example, I close my eyes and listen: I can hear Christmas music, baking pans clinking, water running, people talking, dogs barking, doors opening and closing, children crying, bags rustling, footsteps, horns blowing, the wind, and all the beautiful sounds of life.Take a moment to reflect and enjoy the Christmas season.
How was your experience?
Merry Christmas,
Anna
